STEAM DESCRIPTION: Sometimes thick, dense and heavy, at other times delicate and fine, the edges of this ephemeral substance are not always clearly defined. When dense, it obscures, when thin, it softens but exposes. It scatters and diffuses light. It has a dream-like quality. It is associated with movement, fluidity and temporality, dispersing into nothing. It has a sense of memory in its form. It also has a sense of history and of the present. It is a symbol of industrialization, of train stations, of factories and plants both in the past and now. It is a symbol of both a relentless and brutal drive for progress and of the desired calm of a hot and cleansing bath.
